Heywood Flood Awareness Event
20 August 2008
If you’re a Heywood resident and want to find out how you can
best protect your home and family in the event of a flood,
then we invite you to come along to the Heywood Flood
Awareness Event at Heywood Civic Centre on Thursday 28 August from
2pm to 8pm.
Flooding can hit at any time of the year and instances of flash
flooding in the summer months are increasing. As such, the Heywood
Flood Awareness Event will focus on specific flooding issues that
affect the people of Heywood, and will show residents how they can
take control of a future flooding situation.
Expert advice
The event will host a number of expert representatives including
Rochdale Boroughwide Housing, the council’s Highways Service,
Emergency Planning department, Environmental Health, plus United
Utilities and Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue.
Councillor Alan McCarthy, chair of the Heywood Township
Committee, comments: “The main flooding issues in Heywood relate to
surface water and sewer flooding, and it is important that people
at risk are given the opportunity to find out more and learn how
they can best manage flooding in and around their property. The
Flood Awareness Event will show people how they can do exactly
that.”
