Become a tidy business!
20 August
2008
Businesses across the borough are signing up to our newly
launched Tidy Business Standards Charter – which is awarded to
businesses in recognition of their efforts to control and manage
the amount of waste and litter coming from their premises.
Traders are invited to sign up to the Tidy Business Standards
Charter, which is free, and we will assess the business’
existing litter management policies.
Upon meeting the required standards, we will present businesses
with a Tidy Business Standards Charter certificate and window
sticker to demonstrate their commitment to keeping their
surrounding areas clean and tidy.
Meeting the standard
Traders have a civic responsibility to keep areas around their
premises clear from litter and refuse - which can be as small as a
sweet wrapper, as large as a bag of rubbish, or it can mean many
items that are scattered around.
Gum, cigarette ends and matches are also types of litter, and
businesses should co-operate with the council to minimise such
litter.
Green mission
Councillor Wera Hobhouse, cabinet member for environment and
sustainability, said: “By signing up to the Tidy Business Standards
Charter, traders are demonstrating to their customers that they
take pride in their local environment and are complementing the
council’s efforts to curb the amount of litter and grime around
premises.
“The council is on a green sweep mission, and we’re determined
to make the borough a colourful and more attractive place for
everyone who lives and works here. People deserve it.”
Our Tidy Business Standards Charter is a scheme designed to
raise businesses’ awareness of waste and litter management, and the
civic responsibilities they need to abide by.
