Jobs - filling in your application form
To apply for a post with the council, you will need to complete
one of the following application forms. Please ensure you complete
the relevant form depending on whether the post requires a
CRB
check. If
you are not sure which form to complete, refer to the advertisement
and job description for the post. You can download the
form, save to your computer, complete offline and email back
to us.

Please note that these forms are intended for
all council vacancies except
apprentice,
RBH
and teaching positions. If you are applying for such posts, please
follow the instructions that accompany the job advertisement.
Job descriptions and person specifications
Before you start to complete your application,
you should read the job description and person specification
carefully. For most vacancies you will be able to download
job descriptions and person specifications online.
This information will enable you to show us,
on your application form, how your knowledge, experience, skills
and abilities match those we require and how they will enable you
to successfully do the job.
Use the criteria in the person specification
as headings and give examples of your experience and skills under
each heading. If you do not clearly demonstrate how you meet the
essential criteria in the person specification, you cannot be
shortlisted for interview.
You can use skills you have gained from
community and voluntary work, leisure interests and your home life,
as well as those from your past and recent employment.
Curriculum Vitaes
Curriculum Vitaes (CVs) can be submitted provided it contains
sufficient detail to show how you meet the requirements of the
person specification. You should note that for posts which come
into contact with vulnerable adults or children and young people,
CVs are not accepted.
Difficulties in completing you application
form

Disabled candidates
We accept applications from disabled
candidates in Braille, on cassette or the council's large type
application form. Disabled candidates meeting the essential
criteria for the post will be guaranteed an interview. Your
application form will be judged solely on its merits. Where
possible, changes will be made to ensure a disabled person is able
to carry out the work.
Audio tapes
If you have an impairment which makes it
difficult for you to fill in an application form you may send in an
audio tape. The audio tape must include all the details that are
asked for on the application form.
It would be useful to provide the information in the same order
as it appears on the application form, for example: name,
address, previous jobs and so on.
Non residents of an EEC country
If you are NOT a resident of an EEC country, you need a work
permit in order to be able to work in the UK. As the council is
unable to arrange such permits, we cannot consider your application
if you don't already have one.
Criminal Records Bureau
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting
the welfare of vulnerable adults, children and young people. The
information requested for applicants to posts where they will come
into contact with vulnerable adults or children and young people is
considered to be objectively justified to comply with government
guidance on safer recruitment in such areas.
Decision to shortlist
Your application form is an important part of
the recruitment process. The decision whether or not to shortlist
you for interview will be based on the information you provide on
your application form, we do not take into account any previous
applications or prior knowledge of you.
False information
Providing false information is an offence and
could result in your application being rejected or summary
dismissal if selected, as well as possible referral to the
police.

prior to appointment. One should be from your present employer (or
