Jobs - filling in your application form

To apply for a post with the council, you will need to complete one of the following application forms. Please ensure you complete the relevant form depending on whether the post requires a CRB check.  If you are not sure which form to complete, refer to the advertisement and job description for the post. You can download the form, save to your computer, complete offline and email back to us.

Please note that these forms are intended for all council vacancies except apprentice, RBH and teaching positions. If you are applying for such posts, please follow the instructions that accompany the job advertisement.

Job descriptions and person specifications

Before you start to complete your application, you should read the job description and person specification carefully.  For most vacancies you will be able to download job descriptions and person specifications online.

This information will enable you to show us, on your application form, how your knowledge, experience, skills and abilities match those we require and how they will enable you to successfully do the job.

Use the criteria in the person specification as headings and give examples of your experience and skills under each heading. If you do not clearly demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria in the person specification, you cannot be shortlisted for interview.

You can use skills you have gained from community and voluntary work, leisure interests and your home life, as well as those from your past and recent employment.

Curriculum Vitaes

Curriculum Vitaes (CVs) can be submitted provided it contains sufficient detail to show how you meet the requirements of the person specification. You should note that for posts which come into contact with vulnerable adults or children and young people, CVs are not accepted.

Difficulties in completing you application form

If you have any questions about the completion of your application, please telephone 01706 925634.  Deaf or hearing impaired people using a Minicom contact 01706 924404.

Disabled candidates

Disabled candidates meeting the essential criteria for the post will be guaranteed an interview. Your application form will be judged solely on its merits. Where possible, changes will be made to ensure a disabled person is able to carry out the work.

Audio tapes

If you have an impairment which makes it difficult for you to fill in an application form you may send in an audio tape. The audio tape must include all the details that are asked for on the application form.

It would be useful to provide the information in the same order as it appears on the application form, for example: name, address, previous jobs and so on.

Non residents of an EEC country

If you are NOT a resident of an EEC country, you need a work permit in order to be able to work in the UK. As the council is unable to arrange such permits, we cannot consider your application if you don't already have one.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults, children and young people. The information requested for applicants to posts where they will come into contact with vulnerable adults or children and young people is considered to be objectively justified to comply with government guidance on safer recruitment in such areas.

Your application form is an important part of the recruitment process. The decision whether or not to shortlist you for interview will be based on the information you provide on your application form, we do not take into account any previous applications or prior knowledge of you.
