Information for job applicants
Closing date
Take note of the closing date for applications
and make sure your application is submitted in plenty of time.
Job applications will be accepted up to
midnight on the day of the closing date shown on the job
description.
Late applications will not be accepted
after the closing date.
Complaints procedure
If you are not satisfied with the feedback and
explanations of your overall performance and want to raise a
concern or complain, you may make a written complaint under the
Council’s Recruitment and Selection Complaint Procedure.
Data protection
Your name, address and the post applied for
will be held on computer to facilitate the recruitment process. The
information you provide on the recruitment monitoring form, will
also be held in order to monitor the effectiveness of our
policies.
Lost/delayed applications
Claims that any application form has been lost
or delayed in the post will not be considered without proof of
posting from the Post Office in support of such claims.
Medical assessment
All posts are subject to satisfactory medical
clearance from the Council's occupational health advisers.
No smoking policy
The Authority operates a Smoke Free Policy for
all its employees and applies to any building and associated
grounds within the immediate vicinity of the building which is
wholly owned, leased or operated and occupied by RMBC.
Period of notice
The minimum period of notice you are required
to give to terminate your employment is 4 weeks unless
otherwise stated.
Probationary period
All new entrants to local authority service
are subject to a probationary period of up to 6 months.
Employees on Youth and Community Conditions of Service have to
serve a probationary period during their first year of service.
Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974
Under the above Act, candidates are required
to give details of any convictions or cautions which are not
'spent’. Failure to do so may render you liable to summary
dismissal. If anyone is sentenced to more than two and a
half years in prison then that conviction can never become
‘spent’. It is the sentence imposed by the Court that counts (even
if it is a suspended sentence), not the time
actually spent in prison.
Relatives of members or officers
Candidates for any employment with the Council
must disclose any relationships with a member or senior officer of
the Council. If you fail to disclose any such relationships you
will be disqualified from appointment. Members and senior
officers are also required to disclose any relationship known to
exist with a candidate for an appointment. ‘Senior officer’ is
defined as including all officers who salaries are graded SO1 or
above.
Non residents of an EEC country
If you are NOT a resident of an EEC country, you need a work
permit in order to be able to work in the UK. As the council is
unable to arrange such permits, we cannot consider your application
if you don't already have one. You have the right to work in
Britain if you comply with the following:
- You are a British citizen or have a right of residence in the
United Kingdom
- You are a national of an European Economic Area member
state
- You possess a Home Office or Department for Education and
Skills(DfES) permission to work
Under the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 it is illegal for an
employer to appoint someone who does not have the right to work in
the United Kingdom.
