Home repair assistance grants
Assistance to individual householders
You may be eligable for a home repair assistance
grant of up to £5,000 for certain types of essential work if
you:
- Are an owner occupier aged 60 or over,
- Have lived in the property for three years or more,
and
- Are recieving means-tested benefits
How does it work?
The grant has some conditions attached. When the grant work
is finished, a charge is placed on the property. When it is
sold the whole amount of the grant will be paid back to the
council. We can award grants to eliminate danger including
electrical, gas and structural safety. We also consider replacement
or repair of windows and doors where their condition is allowing
water to penetrate into the property.
We can't deal with all the demands of poor housing
conditions and individual needs. We have to carefully target
resources to ensure we meet the most pressing needs and
priorities.
Advice and support
We are moving away from traditional grants and trying to support
and develop the housing market. We can provide technical
advice on any works that may be necessary and help you find a
contractor to carry out the repairs. We can also provide
information about home loans and equity release to help in finding
alternative ways of funding any necessary works.
