Housing - information and advice

The Advice Service provide free and confidential advice and assistance to residents about their housing rights.

We can advise:

  • Owner occupiers
  • Rochdale Boroughwide Housing and Housing Association tenants
  • Private tenants
  • Landlords

We can advise and assist with:

  • Disrepair
  • Tenancy agreements and security of tenure
  • Mortgage and rent arrears
  • Possession proceedings/notice to quit
  • Harassment and unlawful eviction
  • Getting deposits back at the end of the tenancy
  • Housing benefit and other benefit entitlement
  • Relationship breakdown

We have specialist workers who:

  • Represent residents at County Court proceedings.
  • Provide training on housing issues to voluntary sector groups.

We also assist people with multiple debt problems and welfare rights issues, see the related pages link, in the right hand column, about the help we can provide.

We can give you general advice about welfare benefits, debt or housing issues via our Advice Line.  If the problem is complicated then we can make you an appointment at one of our advice sessions, see related pages for a list of venues throughout the borough.  If we think that your case will need ongoing work then it will be allocated to a specific worker.
