Services for older people
As you get older some day to day tasks may become more
difficult. Rochdale Council's Adult Care Service can arrange a
number of services to help you, or the people who help care for
you, when you find it difficult to manage in your own home.
Advice, assessing needs and arranging services
Social workers and occupational therapists at your local Adult
Care Service office can:
- Advise you, and anyone who helps care for you, on the services
we provide and where you can get other local services, such as
health centres, hospitals, voluntary organisations and private
companies
- Assess your needs and the needs of anyone who helps care for
you before arranging services which match these needs as closely as
possible
There are Adult Care Service offices in Rochdale and Middleton.
There is also an office at Birch Hill Hospital for in-patients at
Birch Hill or Rochdale Infirmary.
We also have social workers who speak Urdu and Bengali based at
our Denehurst Office.
Why we have to assess your needs
We talk to you about your needs to:
- Find out about the difficulties you face
- Decide what services you need, and
- Check that you are a priority for these services
You may hear us call this a needs assessment. It is usually
carried out by a social worker or occupational therapist from the
Adult Care Service but some workers from local NHS Trusts such as
District Nurses, can also do assessments.
If you are caring for someone you will have your own needs
assessed separately. This became a legal right on 1 April 2001
under the Carers and Disabled Children Act.
