Mental health
To get help you can contact the duty officer yourself or someone
can do this for you, for example, a GP, district nurse, relative,
friend or neighbour.
We can arrange an interpreter for people whose first language is
not English or a sign language interpreter for people who are deaf
or hard of hearing.
Advice, assessing needs and arranging service
Community mental health teams assess needs and offer support to
people aged 18 to 65 with long term and severe illnesses. They can
also offer you help in crisis and make sure services are working
closely together.
This is a joint service with the Pennine Care NHS Trust.
Why we have to assess your needs
We talk to you about your needs to:
- Find out about the difficulties you face
- Decide what services you need, and
- Check that you are a priority for these services
You may hear us call this a needs assessment. If you are caring
for someone, you will have your own needs assessed separately. This
became a legal right on 1 April 2001 under the Carers and Disabled
Children Act.
