Counselling
How you feel emotionally is an important part of health and
feeling anxious, stressed or depressed can affect the way you feel
physically.
The groups listed below all offer a confidential service.
Healthy Young People (HYPe) - counselling, advocacy and
support project
Middleton, Heywood and Rochdale each have a free confidential
counselling, advocacy, advice and support service for young people
aged 14-25 (young people aged 13 may access the service at the
manager's discretion).
HYPe
project offers free and
confidential counselling. After your first appointment you can
arrange to meet someone regularly, depending on what your needs
are. Young people will be able to talk in private with a worker
about any situation in their lives they are having trouble coping
with or are not happy about.

Help for people who misuse drugs or alcohol
We can arrange help for all the people affected by alcohol or
drug misuse including family, friends and carers. This help can
range from support and counselling to detoxification programmes.

Help for people who are experiencing mental health
difficulties
The two centres in the borough that provide a range of
activities, therapy and counselling for people who are experiencing
mental health difficulties are:
- Richard Street Centre
- The Middleton Mental Health Resource Centre.

Services to children and families
The Education Welfare Service offer counselling to help families
with difficulties and
- Work individually with children eg counselling sessions,
behaviour modification programmes where needs are linked to
attendance issues
- Arrange specialist help for children eg counselling services,
health appointments
- Devise specialist support programmes, including counselling, in
conjunction with other professionals, for children with specific
difficulties eg school phobics, bereaved children, children who
have been bullied.
The Education Welfare Service operates a Helpline service, via a
Duty Desk, available 9am-1pm every day, including school
holidays.
