Children need the long-term security that family life can offer. Adoption is a way of providing permanent families for children, who cannot, for whatever reason, be brought up by their own parents.

There are considerable numbers of children waiting to be adopted. Nationally from April 2006-2007 there were 3,300 children adopted from public care with the average age of each child being adopted was 4 years 2 months.

On average Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council will place approximately 20 children for adoption each year as we are a relatively small borough.

Bringing up a child can be mutually rewarding and great fun as well as hard work and a big responsibility. This is especially so when you choose to bring up a child who was not born to you. But whatever the challenges, adoptive parents have the opportunity to change a child's life and to provide a better future through the security and stability of a permanent loving home.
