Rochdale Council promotes a range of community and voluntary
transport schemes, including:
Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive
(GMPTE) Concessionary Travel Pass
To qualify for a concessionary travel permit, you must live in
Greater Manchester and be a woman aged 16-59 or a man aged 16-64
and you must also:
- be partially sighted or profoundly or severely deaf; or
- have a disability or have suffered an injury which has
substantial and long term effects on your ability to walk; or
- have been refused a driving licence on medical grounds or have
sight problems or other disabilities likely to result in refusal of
a driving licence. (However, this applies to a slightly different
age group: woman aged 17-59 or a man aged 17-64).
GMPTE Free Travel Pass
The Free Travel Pass scheme enables children with a learning
disability to have free access to a wide range of local transport.
To qualify under the scheme, a child must have severe or moderate
learning difficulties. Adults who have learning difficulties may
also be eligible for a free pass.
GMPTE Travel Vouchers
Travel Vouchers are available to people of any age who are
physically unable to use ordinary buses and live in the Greater
Manchester area. They can only be used to pay for travel by taxis,
accessible bus services such as Ring and Ride, and authorised
community transport schemes. To qualify for vouchers you must be
registered blind or are getting the higher rate of the mobility
component of the Disabled Living Allowance. The vouchers can be
used instead of cash to pay for travel and are bought at a
discounted rate.
Applications forms for passes and vouchers are available from
GMPTE.
Ring and Ride
Ring and Ride is a door to door public transport service for
people who find it very difficult or impossible to reach a bus stop
or get on and off buses. Ring and Ride buses are fully equipped to
take wheelchair users.
It offers a local service seven days a week from
8.30am-10.30pm for trips such as shopping, leisure, clubs etc but
not for hospital appointments; book 24 hours before travelling.
There are flat rate concessionary price and normal fares.
