Christmas office closures and updates

Most non critical services close at 5pm on Tuesday, 24 December 2019 and reopen at 9am on Thursday, 2 January 2020. Please see below changes to opening hours for the various service areas.

Contacting us

If you're phoning us about a non-urgent enquiry, our contact centre will be open 8.30am-4pm on Thursday 27 December, Friday 27 December 2019, Monday 30 December 2019 and Tuesday 31 December 2019. For all times between these dates you can contact our emergency phone line for emergency calls only.

The contact centre will open as usual at 8.30am on Thursday, 2 January 2020.

Bin collections

There WILL be changes to waste and recycling collection dates over Christmas. We will also collect any extra recycling​, for more details see the bin collection changes​​.

Household Waste Centres​ (Chichester Street, Rochdale and Spring Vale, Middleton) are open every day apart from Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.​

Council Tax Direct Debit dates

​​​​​The dates for the collection of Council Tax Direct Debits will change slightly during Christmas and New Year.

Number One Riverside​

Number One Riverside will close for customers at 5pm on Tuesday, 24 December 2019 and reopen at 9am on Thursday, 2 January 2020. Some services may close earlier; please see details on this page for more information.

Customer services and libraries 

Library members are still able to renew and reserve items online as well as have online access to Borrowbox and RB Digital for e-books, e-audiobooks and e-magazines. More about libraries.

Link4Life leisure centres and entertainment venues

  • There will be some changes to the opening hours of Link4Life leisure centres and venues, including Heywood Sports Village, Middleton Arena, Rochdale Leisure Centre and Touchstones Arts and Heritage Centre. You can get up to date information on Christmas closures and changes to swimming  pool and fitness timetables on the Link4Life website.
  • Hollingworth Lake Activity Centre will be closed from Saturday, 21 December 2019 and re-open on Thursday, 2 January 2020.

Hollingworth Lake

Hollingworth Lake cafe​ and toilets are open every day, 9.30am to 5pm, except Christmas Day.

The visitor centre will close on Christmas Eve at 3.30pm and will open again on Saturday, 4 January 2020 at 10am. The visitor centre will also be open on New Year's Eve from 10am-3.30pm.

Children and Family Centres

Sure Start Children’s Centres are open as usual up to Tuesday, 24 December 2019 (please check December timetables for the individual centres) and then closed - with the exception of well-baby clinics and  pre-booked ante-natal/post-natal appointments. The centres will reopen on  Thursday, 2 January 2020. View our ​Sure Start Children Centres opening times.

Children’s Social Care Services will continue to operate throughout and can be contacted on 0300 303 0440. To report a concern about a child or adult outside of working hours, at weekends or during Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day, contact the Emergency Duty Team on 0300 303 8875. If it’s an emergency, dial 999 and ask for the Police.

Community Connectors

There will be no community connector drop in sessions between Wednesday, 25 December 2019 and Wednesday, 1 January 2020.

Adult Social Care Services

If you need help on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and the weekend of Saturday 29 December 2019 and Sunday 30 December 2019 please ring our emergency number.

Service will continue as usual on other days and if you need assistance, please ring our non-emergency number between 8.45am-4.45pm.

Rochdale Town Hall

Rochdale Town Hall and Clock Tower Dining Room will close to the public on Saturday, 21 December 2019 at 3.30pm and will reopen at 9am on Thursday, 2 January 2020. ​

​​​Rochdale Register Office (Rochdale Town Hall)

Rochdale Register Office will be open for ceremonies by prior arrangement. If you require a Registrar urgently when the office is closed please contact 0300 303 8875 for further advice.

Public toilets are closed on 25 December (Christmas Day) and open every other day (including New Year's Day) as usual.​
