The Summer Reading Challenge 2019 theme is Space Chase, an out-of-this-world adventure inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing, featuring bespoke artwork from top children's illustrator, Adam Stower.
The Rockets are a super cool family that live on a satellite station in space. They love to spend time at their local library on the Moon. This summer the Rockets are going on a very special mission, and they need your help.
Books are disappearing from the Moon Library with no explanation, and soon there won't be any left. Who could be behind such a dastardly deed…?
Could it be the naughty crew of alien adventurers who want to keep all the books for themselves. Can you help the Rockets find them before it's too late? Watch out – they're on the move!!
The Space Chase is on
The Summer Reading Challenge is aimed at 4-11 year olds. It's totally free and to get started all your child has to do is sign up at the library. There, they'll receive a collector folder to keep a record of their Summer Reading Challenge journey. As they read library books, they'll solve clues and collect special stickers to complete their mission folder and earn their Space Chase certificate and medal.
Children are being asked to read at least 6 books to help our super space family track down books nabbed by mischievous aliens! They can be any books they like – novels, fact books, e-books or audio books all count – and your library will have staff and volunteers on hand to help children choose books they will really enjoy.
Can they find the aliens in time to save the day?
To add to the fun, visit the Summer Reading Challenge website
to log the books your child has read during the summer. They can find new books to read recommended by other children, watch exclusive author videos, take part in competitions and play games.
