Rochdale in Rainbows, the borough's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender+ (LGBT+) group, is proud to present Pride. Everyone's welcome to join us and celebrate. Let's get the borough together.

Events

Trans Day of Remembrance

  • Date: Saturday, 20 November 2021
  • Time: 9.30am–10am

  • Details: Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is an annual observance that honours the memory of trans people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. The Trans flag will be raised by the Mayor of Rochdale and local young people will share their reflections. A minute's silence will be held to remember those whose lives have been lost. 

Drag Queen Story Hour, Rochdale

  • Date: Sunday, 21 November 2021
  • Time: 11am–12 noon

  • Booking: tickets are free. Please book one ticket per child and one ticket per accompanying adult. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
  • Details: An interactive story time like no other. Join in interactive fun with sing songs, stories and lots and lots of jumping around.

    Drag Queen Story Hour will engage your child's creativity and love for reading stories by giving them a brand-new, positive experience, one page at a time. Aida H Dee, The Story Time Drag Queen, will be reading some fabulous stories to show the world that being different is not a bad thing. By providing an imaginative role model for children to look up to, we can change the world book by book.

Knitting the Progress Flag

  • Details: Join local community group Knitty Gritty to knit your own mini progress flag to take home with you. The group have beautifully knitted a larger flag which will be on display in Your Space at Touchstones Rochdale. While retaining the common 6-stripe rainbow design as a base, the "Progress" variation adds a chevron along the hoist that features black, brown, light blue, pink, and white stripes to bring those communities (marginalised people of colour, trans individuals, and those living with HIV/AIDS and those who have been lost) to the forefront; "the arrow points to the right to show forward movement, while being along the left edge shows that progress still needs to be made." Come along and have a brew and a natter and take home your own mini Progress Flag.

Queer Portraits of Rochdale

  • Details: The official opening of Queer Portraits of Rochdale. A photographic exhibition celebrating the diversity of the local LGBTQ+ community in Rochdale borough. There will also be a performance from local dance group Women in Touch developed around the theme of progress within the LGBTQ+ community.

Open House, inclusive Church Service

  • Details: Come and join us for 'Open House, an inclusive worship event led by Justin Kennedy, the recently appointed minister, who is openly gay. This will be a night of worship and friendship together. If you're LGBTQ+ or an ally, you're welcome in the house. The doors are open so come and take your place.

HIV + Me, film screening

  • Details: Meet the people from Greater Manchester determined to end HIV stigma and shame. The UK Government has committed to ending all new transmissions of HIV by 2030. In the lead up to this World AIDS Day (1 Dec), we've teamed up with Dibby Theatre and HIV charity George House Trust to bring you 3 remarkable stories about life with HIV today. HIV + Me showcases 3 ordinary people from Greater Manchester living with HIV and their extraordinary stories in 3 beautifully shot short films.

Youth Games Night

  • Details: as part of an ongoing project to uncover hidden narratives in the collection, Touchstones Rochdale has been researching and investigating objects and artworks that highlight LGBTQ+ connections and stories. For Rochdale in Rainbows this year, staff have been working with local LGBTQ+ identifying groups and people to record their responses to 3 artworks currently on display to visitors in the latest Gallery 2 exhibition, What's Changed.
