“Moonraking” A look at Middleton and its History an illustrated talk by Geoff Wellens.

Middleton's written records date back to 1183 when Adam, Clerk of Middleton witnessed a document. However, we can go back a couple of hundred years to the Saxon family of Middleton, the Saxon church and even St Cuthbert's mortal remains being carried by the Lindesfarne monks to various places in the North-West, including "Middleton-juxta-Manchester".

Geoff will explore this with illustrations of St Leonard's church, maps, halls and quotations. Geoff is a member of the Wellens family of funeral directors in Middleton. He has previously given us a talk on “The Humorous and Serious Side of Funerals” which was well received and is still remembered by those lucky enough to have been in the audience at that time. He is an experienced and humorous speaker and one who we are lucky to have tempted out of retirement. Come along and enjoy the experience.
