Williams BMW Rochdale Half Marathon, 10K and Fun Run – frequently asked questions

Before the race

Can I change my entry?

If you need to change your entry you can do this in person on:

  • Sunday, 3 October 2021, 8am–9.30am at the signposted information point on The Esplanade near the start line. A £3 administration fee will be payable for any changes. Your original number that you received in the post should be taken to the 'Registration Desk' to either transfer to someone else or swap to another of the races.

Unauthorised sale or transfer of your race entry or number to another person is strictly prohibited, and will result in disqualification and or banning from future events for any individuals involved.

You cannot cancel your entry and all entry fees are non-refundable.


I can't find my confirmation email

Log-in to BookitZone.com and re-send the confirmation email, or email us at HalfMarathon@rochdale.gov.uk.


Where do I pick up my number and timing chip?

This year we will post your race number and timing chip to you. This is to avoid you collecting it the day before or on the day when it can get very busy.

If you arrive on race day without your race number or timing chip, we'll allocate you a new one for a charge of £5.


What happens if a runner tests positive for COVID-19 or has to self-isolate?

If you have a positive COVID-19 test, you should follow government advice on isolating at home.

We'll roll your place over to the 2022 event if you send evidence to halfmarathon@rochdale.gov.uk.


I'd like to raise money for charity

Our official charity for 2021 is Springhill Hospice. The Rochdale-based charity provides care for people with life-limiting illnesses.

Race day

Where can I park? 

There's a large car park open 24 hours a day at the new Rochdale Riverside retail and leisure centre, which is a 5 minute walk from the start line. You can park all day for £1 on Sundays. If you haven't yet seen this major new development, do take a look after your run.

Rochdale Bus Station and Rochdale Town Centre Metrolink stop are a 5 minute walk from the start line.

There's free car parking from 6.30am on the day of the event at:

Warm-ups

There will be 10 minute warm-ups at 9.45am, 10.20am and 10.45am on The Esplanade. These will be led by personal trainers from Hopwood Hall College and OnePT.

Is there a secure area to keep my kit safe?

There will be a staffed baggage area to store your kit. This will be located at the Springhill Hospice stand on The Esplanade. Your bags may be subject to a search. Please co-operate with any security requests.


Will there be pacers?

Yes, we'll have a team of experienced runners who will pace runners in the half marathon at 15 minute intervals from 1.30pm-2.30pm. We will also have 50 minute and 1 hour pacers for the 10k. These runners will wear clothing identifying them as pace runners and the pace they're running at.


Am I allowed to wear headphones during the race?

For your own safety, the safety of other runners and members of the public, the wearing of headphones, earphones or similar devices is not permitted in this event. You could face automatic disqualification for ignoring this instruction. Bone conducting headphones such as AfterShokz are permitted, although you'll need to let us know you intend to wear them by visiting the registration desk on the morning of the event before your race or your time may be deleted.


Can I take part on a roller skates or pushing a buggy?

We're following the advice of RunBritain and are not permitting anyone to be pushed around the course, in accordance with the rules of UK Athletics.


What nutrition will be available on the course?

There'll be water stations on the 10K and Half Marathon courses.

Please assist our volunteers by disposing of cups in the bins located at the end of feed zones.


Is there a time limit to finish the races?

Yes, the roads will re-open after 3 hours from the start of the Half Marathon, if you're still running after 1pm you'll need to run on the pavements and run as a pedestrian obeying all signals and the Highway Code. The finish line will close 3.5 hours after the start of the race, any runners completing after this time will not receive an official finisher’s time.


After the race

What do I get at the end of the race?

  • Half Marathon – medal and technical t-shirt
  • 10K – medal and technical t-shirt
  • Fun Run – medal

Where can I meet up with family and friends after the race?

There'll be a sports village by the start and finish line. There's also a number of restaurants and bars near the start and finish line.   


Where do I get my t-shirt?

You can pick up your t-shirt on the morning of the event from a stand on The Esplanade which will be signposted, from 8am until 9.30am, or after you have finished your run, it's up to you. Take your race number to the t-shirt stand. Please make sure you pick up the correct size t-shirt. Request a new size if needed, we will have spares of other sizes so make sure you get your desired fit.


Are there any showers?   

There are no shower facilities.


Lost property

If you think you may have lost something at the event, please email HalfMarathon@rochdale.gov.uk and one of our team will do their best to help try and find your lost item.


Can I get photographs from the event?

We will have 3 photographers and a video camera operator covering this event. Official race photographs and video clips will be posted on our Facebook page. We'll also post links to other photo galleries. You can also get photos on our Twitter @RochdaleHalf and @RochdaleHalfMarathon on Instagram. Please smile!! Our photos are free.


Is there wifi?

Free wifi is available inside Touchstones Rochdale, and you can pick it up at the front of the building outside, near the start line. No password needed – select RMBC Public. You'll be promoted to enter your personal email address to connect. Tag us in your social posts using @Rochdalehalf and #RunRochdale on Twitter, @RochdaleHalfMarathon on Instagram and we're RochdaleHalf on Facebook.


Where are the prizes presented?

We invite you to attend the short presentation of prizes which will take place at approximately 1pm next to the Williams BMW stand on The Esplanade. Please do your best to attend this and show your support. Any prizes not presented on stage will be posted a few days after the event.


Terms and conditions

I accept that the organiser will not be liable for any loss, damage, action, claim, cost or expenses which may arise in the consequence of my participation in or attendance to this event. I declare that I will not attend unless I am in good health on the day of the event and accept that I attend at my own risk. In the unlikely event of abandonment or cancellation, all or part of my entry fee may be retained for the management and administration of the event. No refunds or transfers allowed under any circumstances. For your own safety, the safety of other runners and members of the public, the wearing of headphones or earphones is not permitted in this event. Automatic disqualification from race results may follow for any competitors ignoring this instruction.
