What is graffiti?

Graffiti is the term used for the defacement of surfaces by substances or by defacement through scratching or etching. To report any defacement or to report an offender please contact the our helpline.

Graffiti is unsightly and is now considered to be a contributing factor to fear of crime and can also be a factor in the decline of a neighbourhood or area.

Removal of graffiti

We take defacement through graffiti seriously and we aim to remove any offensive or abusive graffiti within 24 hours from when it is reported.

We will in the first instance remove any graffiti from private residences at no charge as soon as possible.  Charges will be made to business for any removal unless it is offensive or abusive.

We have the power to serve graffiti removal notices on any privately owned buildings or street furniture. Any offenders identified who have carried out any defacement will either be prosecuted through the courts or issued with a fixed penalty notice of £75 for each area of defacement.
