Ways to slim your bin!

Follow these handy tips to help you manage your household waste better and lower your 'waste line'!

  • Put your bin out by 7am in case our crews come down your street early!
  • Put rubbish in the right bin so we can recycle even more of your rubbish and give your refuse bin more space. What can I put in my recycling bins?
  • Keep bin lids closed as we can't collect from bins with lids left open.
  • Don't leave bags of rubbish next to your bin. Modern wheelie bins have nearly two and a half times more spacae than the old dustbins they replaced. Recycle as much as you can to reduce the chances of your bins being overfull.
  • Only put rubbish we currently recycle in your light green and blue bins/bag. Find out what you can recycle and put in your recycling bins
  • Only put garden waste in your brown bin if you have one.
  • Love food hate waste! The average family throws away up to £50 worth of food each month. For money saving tips and leftover recipe ideas go the Love Food Hate Waste website or give us a call on 0845 226 1800 for some advice.
  • Bring your bin onto your property after collection as this reduces the chances of malicious fires or your bin being stolen. Top tip - put your house number on your bin to reduce the chances of it going missing.
  • Get a free bulky waste collection. We can collect up to five large household items free of charge, including beds, mattresses, carpets, suites, fridges and cookers (charges apply for some household items). Fill out our bulky waste request form or call us on 0845 226 1800.
  • Take a trip to the tip! There are three household waste disposal sites in the borough where you can take allsorts of household rubbish for free! Find your local tip.
  • Leave space for our bin collection wagons. Please leave us enough room to get down your street when we come and collect.
