Waste and recycling collections

Please ensure that your bin is put out on your normal collection day by 7am. If it was put out by 7am then it will emptied on the same day; unless the crew has reported that it is overloaded or contains incorrect material for example bricks or soil.

Collection days

Your refuse container will be emptied on the same day every other week. Please ensure that it is placed at the collection point by 7am on the nominated day. The container will be emptied and returned by the refuse crew.

We will tell you about changes to your collection day through articles in your local paper and on this website, or by placing a sticker on your bin.

What to do on the collection day

On the nominated day of collection you should wheel your bin to a collection point, usually at the edge of the kerb, and collect your bin from the same place after it has been emptied as soon as your are able. (A smaller 140 litre wheeled bin is available if the standard 240 litre is not suitable.)

Collection point

It is important to make a note of where your refuse bin is left once it has been emptied as this will be the preferred collection point.

For most properties the collection point is at the kerbside. The refuse bin should be positioned on the grass verge or open space so as not to obstruct the highway or footway.

Some properties will have communal collection points (for example; flats, cul-de-sacs, back to back terrace or town houses). Your collection point in this case will be the place that your bin is currently left by the refuse collectors.

If you are unsure where your collection point is, please discuss this with your refuse collector, who will be happy to assist you. Alternatively contact our helpline using the contact details.

Missed collections

If a local restriction such as roadworks prevented collection on the day of collection, the crew will call back to empty the container as soon as possible which may be the next day if conditions allow.

Bank Holiday collections

We operate four days a week - Tuesday to Friday - to alleviate the problem of Bank Holiday Monday collections. Collections will still be undertaken on Good Friday. Householders will be notified of the arrangements for the Christmas and New Year periods.
