Domestic bins
We use a wheeled bin system for household waste
collections. You should put your bin (no side
waste) at the collection point by 7am on your collection day,
with the bin lid fully closed to stop spillage and
health and safety hazards.
To make full use of the bins capacity, please flatten
polystyrene and, or packaging (that cannot be recycled), before
putting it in the bin. Please do not force objects into the
bin as this may mean that the bin cannot be emptied
properly.
Dealing with your household waste
Help us to help you - to make sure your bin is
emptied please follow the guidance below:
- Only use your wheeled bin to store domestic waste.
- For health and safety reasons, ensure your wheeled bin is ready
for collection with the lid fully closed.
- Avoid overloading your bin, if one person cannot
easily move the bin, it will not be emptied. Overloaded bins can
cause injury to refuse collectors and damage the collection
vehicle.
Over recent years we have been expanding our recycling
service to help residents reduce the amount of waste put into
refuse bins and dispose of waste in a way that is better for the
environment.
What SHOULD be placed in your wheeled bin?
Your wheeled bin can contain general household waste
including:
- Waste food - see also Composters
- Non-recyclable plastics
- A small amount of light garden waste - see also Garden waste
What SHOULD NOT be placed in your wheeled bin?

Overloading can result in damage to the bin and lifting
equipment. The bin will not be emptied until the objects are
removed.
Cleaning your wheeled bin
To keep your bin clean put some newspaper in the bottom of the
bin. It is easier to clean your bin if you lie it on its side. Some
private companies offer a wheeled bin cleaning services. These
companies have no connection with Rochdale Borough
Council.
