Planning - high hedges
Provided they have tried and exhausted all other avenues for
resolving their hedge dispute, people have been able to take their
complaint about a neighbour's evergreen hedge to their local
authority.
Our role is not to mediate or negotiate between the complainant
and the hedge owner but to adjudicate on whether - in the words of
the Act - the hedge is adversely affecting the complainant's
reasonable enjoyment of their property.
To lodge a complaint under this legislation you need to:
- Complete the form. Available from the address above or download
it below
- Submit the supporting information as set out in the guidance
notes
- Submit a plan of the area of the dispute to a scale of
1:1250
- Pay the fee of £400 (Cheque payable to R.M.B.C.)
- Send it to Planning and Regulation Services
If we consider the circumstances justify it, we will issue a
formal notice to the hedge owner which will set out what they must
do to the hedge to remedy the problem, and when they need to do
this by.
