Local Development Framework - Core Strategy
Status / Progress
Preliminary work started on the Local Development Framework Core
Strategy in May 2007 with the intention of having it completed by
the end of 2010.
Issues and Options
Consultation on the Core Strategy Issues and Options report and
other documents, along with a call for possible development
sites, took place between 8 September 2008
to 7 November 2008 and has now closed. Officers are
currently considering representations received, which will feed
into the preparation of the Preferred Options report likely to be
published in Spring 2009.
The Issues and Options report sets out the main issues facing
the borough and six spatial options on where new development could
be focused. It offers choices on what and how much development is
needed, and where it could go.

Role of Core Strategy
The Core Strategy will set out the Council’s vision
and overall strategy for the future development of the Borough,
including the broad extent and location of new development,
transport infrastructure and movement, and its relationship with
other local strategies and neighbouring authorities. All
other Development Plan documents will need to conform to
the Core Strategy.
