Rochdale Borough Design Awards 2009
The results!
As part of the borough’s commitment to, and recognition of,
design excellence, we have launched the Rochdale Borough
Design Awards. There are two awards: the Rochdale Borough Design
Award, decided by a panel of experts, and the Rochdale Borough
People’s Design Award, decided by public vote on the website.
Judging and voting has now taken place for the 2009 awards, and
the results are as follows:
Rochdale Borough Design Award – WINNER –
Extension to 2 Whitfield Farm, Littleborough
(Architects: CJ Partnership)
Modern design bringing light and space to a grade 2 listed
building. A cramped, dark garage transformed into attractive living
space and gardens.
Rochdale Borough People’s Design Award – WINNER –
Hill House, Littleborough
Contemporary design which respects the context and neighbouring
properties; amended to reflect concerns of neighbours and
Council.
Rochdale Borough Design Award – SPECIAL COMMENDATION –
Derby Street Children’s Centre, Heywood
Imaginative use of space, indoors and outdoors. Child-friendly
space and eye catching design
Look out for the 2010 awards
– nominations will be invited soon!
The awards build on the success of the published
Oldham and Rochdale Urban Design Guide Supplementary Planning
Documents (Adopted September 2007) which have been hailed as
an outstanding example of local authority guidance for developers
in respect of design issues. They raise the bar in terms of
expectations for design in the boroughs, welcoming innovation and
excitement in architecture and open space design.
