Financing your business

Identifying grants and loans available to finance your business can be a confusing process. There are a number of financial schemes available to businesses in Rochdale for both new and existing businesses. For more information on these please click on one of the following links:

Business grants for young people

If you are aged between 18-30, are unemployed or work less than 16 hours per week, have a business idea but have been unsuccessful in securing finance, then you may be eligible for a start-up grant of up to £1,500 from the Prince's Trust.

Grants for creative industries

The Greater Manchester Creative Industries Development Service (CIDS) works to help new and established creative businesses in Greater Manchester.

CIDS provide free grant searches on finance available for Creative Industries from organisations such as the Arts Council North West and the Prince's Trust.

Grant of upto £2,500 available to manufacturing companies looking to diversify online.

Business loans

The majority of high street banks offer a range of business loan packages to suit your business, with small business loans of up to £25,000. To find out more information, check out your local high street banks.

If you have been unsuccessful in securing a bank loan to finance your business, you may be able to access finance from some of the sources below:

The Enterprise Fund (TEF)

The Enterprise Fund are part of the Manchester Solutions Group and offer loans to new and established businesses that are unable to borrow from traditional lenders.

  • Loans of between £250 - £30,000 are available for start-up and existing businesses

To be eligible for a loan you must:

  • Have a viable business plan
  • The right business skills and commitment to make your business a success
  • Be able to show borrowing refusal from a bank or other financial provider

Business Finance North West

Business Finance North West  is the trading name for the finance arm of Bolton Business Ventures Ltd.

Business Finance North West delivers a number of loan funds that support new and established businesses in the North West that are unable to borrow from traditional lenders all or some of the finance needed.

North Manchester Business Development Loan Fund

The North Manchester Business Development Loan Fund is delivered by Business Finance North West specifically for people in the Metropolitan Borough's of Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale and Wigan who are seeking to raise finance to set up or develop a business.

  • Loans of up to £10,000 are available for start-up businesses
  • Loans of up to £30,000 are available for established small businesses that are seeking to grow

To be eligible for a loan you must:

  • The right business skills and real committment to make your business a success
  • Be able to show borrowing refusal from a bank or other financial provider
Women In Business Loan Fund

A dedicated loan fund (delivered by Business Finance North West) for female entrepreneurs across the North West seeking to raise finance to grow or start a business.

  • Loans of up to £10,000 are available for start-up businesses
  • Loans of up to £30,000 are available for established small businesses seeking to grow
Creative Industries Loan Fund

Business Finance North West also deliver a loan package dedicated for creative industries within the North West that are seeking to raise finance to grow or start a business. Financial assistance for unemployed people

New Deal for self-employed

New Deal for self employed is part of the Government's New Deal programme that aims to give unemployed people the help and support they need to start their own business. 

The programme is specifically for people who are eligble for New Deal and who want to set up a business, but experience difficulties in comming off benefit to start a business.

InBiz deliver the New Deal programme in Rochdale and allow:

  • The opportunity to continue to draw any benefits you may be eligible for
  • Personal Business Advisor for guidance and support
  • Business Planning Workshops
  • New Business Skills

The programme is delivered in three stages:

Stage 1:   Business idea
