Abandoned vehicles
Each year in the United Kingdom approximately two million
vehicles reach the end of life, either through age or becoming
unusable after involvement in an accident.
It is an offence to abandon a vehicle
anywhere on the highway this includes any public land.
Since we have been working in partnership
with the Greater Manchester Fast Track Scheme there has been a
substantial reduction in the number of vehicles abandoned within
our borough.
If you suspect that a vehicle has been
abandoned then you should report it direct to the Greater
Manchester Police.
Greater
Manchester Police.
Abandoned vehicles on private or council
land should be reported to our helpline along with any details
such as:
- Location
- How long the vehicle has been there
- Vehicle make, model and colour
- Registration numbers if known and also if
there is a visible tax disc
- The condition of the vehicle
If you have a vehicle that has come to the
end of its life then it should be disposed of through a recognised
scrap dealer details of which can be found in your local
directory. Failure to do so could lead to prosecution through
the courts and a fixed penalty notice of £200. For further advice
or information please call the helpline.
