School admissions - appeals
If your child is not offered a place at your preferred school,
you have the right to appeal against that decision to an
independent appeal panel.
Details of the appeal arrangements will be included with the
letter notifying you of your offer of a place.
Who can help with your school admissions appeal?
Before you lodge an appeal for a community school in Rochdale,
you may find it useful to talk to a Council Customer Services
officer. This person will not have been involved in the allocation
process but will be able to discuss the options available to you,
explain how the waiting list works and how to appeal against the
decision. You may then wish to fill in an appeal form and return it
to Legal and Democratic Services.

Lodging an appeal
To lodge an appeal for a Foundation or
Voluntary Aided school, you should write to the clerk to the
governing body of the school concerned at the school’s address.
If you wish to appeal for a place at a
school in another local authority you must contact
that local authority for details of their appeal
arrangements.
What happens if your appeal is
unsuccessful?
If you appeal for a school and are
unsuccessful you cannot appeal for that school again in the same
academic year unless there is a significant change in your
circumstances, (such as a change of address), but you can, of
course, remain on the waiting list for that school.
Exclusions
Note: This
appeals procedure does not apply to pupils who have a statement of
special educational needs.
