Building Schools for the Future
£160m is being spent over five years (January 2010 – September
2014) to totally transform secondary education in the Borough under
the Building Schools for the Future programme, an investment plan
that will help renew or rebuild every secondary school in the
Borough.
Under Building Schools for the Future:
- Hollingworth Business and Enterprise College, Wardle High and
Falinge Park will be substantially rebuilt.
- Balderstone has been amalgamated with Springhill (becoming
Kingsway Park High) with major rebuilding and remodelling on the
Springhill site.
- Middleton Technology, Matthew Moss, Cardinal Langley, Holy
Family and St Cuthbert’s will undergo major
refurbishment.
- Brownhill School and Darnhill Pupil Referral Unit are set to be
rebuilt and there will be minor refurbishment at the Saxon Hall
Pupil Referral Unit.
- Heywood High School closed in September 2010 with pupils
transferring to Siddal Moor where major rebuilding and remodelling
is proposed.
All schools involved in the Building Schools for the Future
programme will receive substantial ICT funding to deliver cutting
edge technology. This investment also includes Oulder Hill and
Redwood Schools which were upgraded in 2007. The aim is to deliver
joined-up hi-tech education that encourages shared learning.
The bulk of the investment money will come from the Government
with Hollingworth, Wardle and Falinge Park projects being delivered
through the Private Finance Initiative..

Photographs
Photographs were taken of the current condition of all the
schools involved in the

schools will look following remodelling and some actual photos of
those now completed.
