Nursery classes/schools
Nursery classes or nursery schools provide early years education
for children aged three and four. Children are eligible to start in
the September following their third birthday (although a few do
accept children throughout the year depending on numbers). Nursery
classes are part of an independent or primary school and nursery
schools are separate services run by the state.
Nursery classes and nursery schools offer five half day sessions
per week during term time (usually morning or afternoon).
If you wish your child to take up a nursery place you must
approach the nursery of your choice in the autumn term prior to the
September your child is due to start nursery. A list of all
the local authority nurseries classes and schools is available from
the FIS.

Day Nurseries
Private Day Nurseries are for children under five to play, learn
and have fun in groups. All nurseries must be registered with
Ofsted and checks are carried out every year to ensure the nursery
is continuing to provide a safe and suitable service.
Most nurseries open between 8am-6pm for most weeks of the year
except public Bank holidays. The number of children at the nursery
also varies depending on the number of children they are able to
cater for.
Within the Rochdale borough there are over 35 settings available
– for a list of those in your area please contact the FIS.
