Instrumental tuition - Wider Opportunities Music Project
The Wider Opportunities Music Project involves primary schools
and is completely free of charge to pupils.
We invite one whole year four class and their teacher (the
teacher is expected to take part as a child) to take part in
singing, learning to play an instrument and doing percussion
activities with a team of teachers from Rochdale Music Service for
ten sessions in a term, each lasting one hour.
All equipment, letters and planning are provided by the
project team.
At the end of the ten weeks, the children give a performance to
the whole school and any invited visitors. We invite feedback from
the school taking part, so that we may improve our service wherever
possible.
We also make a separate visit to the school, on a Monday
morning, with a team of instrumental teachers who perform a short
concert, and musical instrument demonstration . After the concert
the project class is able try out a wide variety of musical
instruments (also supplied by the team).
If the children have enjoyed taking part in the project and
would like to sing in a choir or learn to play an instrument,
parents can contact the school or the Music Centre to arrange
lessons.
For any further information regarding the Wider Opportunities
Scheme, please contact the Music Service.
Other help in schools
We can provide tuition for “whole class” choirs on a regular
weekly basis and offer specialist advice with appropriate
repertoire and school choir training.
If you need an accompanist, we can supply one for your choir on
a regular weekly basis, or for “one-off” assemblies or school
productions. We can also provide assistance with school band and
orchestra rehearsals, advise on repertoire, and help in preparing
for Music Festivals or special occasions.
