How you can prepare for winter

• Safer winter driving (be better prepared for driving in wintry conditions before you travel with this journey planning and vehicle checking advice)
• Ice safety warnings (frozen lakes, rivers, canals and resevoirs can present a serious safety hazard. Parents are urged to make sure children don't walk or cycle on frozen water.
• Keep Warm, Keep Well (advice on how to stay healthy during chilly periods)
• Free home fire risk assessments from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue
• Cold weather payment (if you're on a low income, a cold weather payment may be available to help you for each week of very cold weather in your area)
• Winter fuel payment for over 60s (information on claiming a tax-free winter fuel payment to keep warm in winter if you are aged 60 or over.
• Make your home energy efficient (financial support to make your home more energy efficient.

Look out for your neighbours

It's also important to check on elderly or vulnerable relatives or neighbours during bad weather. Have you thought of  voluntary work to look after local people who need support.
