Performance
The Government asks us to listen to local people and provide
services to satisfy their needs.
What we hear become our priorities and are set out in our
long term plan for the borough, Aiming High, and are:
- Increasing jobs and prosperity
- Making sure every child matters
- Improving community safety
- Creating a cleaner, greener environment
- Improving health and well-being
Our service plans contain development activities and targets
that will contribute towards these ambitions and priorities. These
are continually monitored and updated to ensure our services are
continually improving.
Inspections of services are also carried out by government
inspectors, and feedback from these is also used to identify
service areas where improvements are required.

Performance indicators are also used to continually assess
particular aspects of services. These are useful as the same
indicators are often collected by all councils at a national or
regional level and so allow us to compare our performance with the
best performing councils.
Councillors are also heavily involved in improving service
performance as they scrutinise the development of our policies and
services.
Other information such as feedback from customer surveys and
complaints information also allow service users to tell us what
they think about the services they receive and how they need to
improve.
Beacon Status
The Beacon Scheme identifies excellence and innovation in local
government. The scheme exists to share good practice so that 'best
value' authorities can learn from each other and deliver high
quality services to all.
Rochdale has previously held Beacon Council status
for:
- Supporting Carers 2005-2006
- Community Cohesion 2003-2004
- Takling Homelessness 2003-2004
