Results from the local elections on Thursday 1 May 2008
- Liberal Democrats hold Rochdale.
Summary
The Liberal Democrat group increased their majority on the
council, adding an extra seat to their total. There were two
Liberal Democrat gains from Labour in Balderstone & Kirkholt
and North Heywood. Labour gained a councillor in East Middleton
from the Liberal Democrats.
In all other wards the sitting councillors retained their
seats.
Overall turnout for the borough: 33.07%
New make-up of the council
- Liberal Democrat 33 (was 32)
- Labour 18 (was 19)
- Conservative 8 (was 8)
- Other 1* (was 1)
*Cllr David Murphy, existing member for East Middleton is now
independent (was Labour).
