Performance Summary 2007-08
In the 2007 Comprehensive Performance Assessment
(CPA) annual inspection of all councils carried out by the
government’s Audit Commission inspectors the Council was downgraded
from 3 to 2 stars. This result was very disappointing and
attributed to a recent inspection of the Adult Care Service which
was assessed as having improved in priority service areas but still
in need of significant improvements.
We have, however, received some positive feedback from
inspectors regarding our services and achieved some notable
improvements.
- Services for children and young people have been particularly
commended by the Audit Commission and we have exceeded our local
educational attainment targets.
- We have also been recognised for improvements made to community
safety with effective partnership working with organisations
including the police being considered a contributory factor in
reducing crime levels.
- Encouraging progress has also been made in regenerating the
Borough, with local town centres improving, and job creation and
local prosperity both rising.
We have revised our Corporate Plan, Aiming High. This sets out
priorities and targets for improvement up to 2010 and ensures our
services continue to be focused on the real issues that affect the
lives of people that live and work in the Borough.
Aiming High also includes details of Stepping Up our
transformational change programme. This will help to ensure we
provide services that put our customers first, achieve value for
money by making our services efficient and effective, and develop
our staff so they have the skills to support our ambitious
plans.
