- Message from the Leader of the Council -
Welcome to the 2007/08 Best Value Performance Plan.
- Introduction - Briefly outlines our
partnership working arrangements in the Local Strategic Partnership
and the background to our Corporate Plan, Aiming High.
- Characteristics of the Borough - This
section includes details of the Borough’s population, its
ethnicity, health, educational attainment, employment and crime
levels. The section also describes the physical
characteristics of the Borough, its housing, employing industries,
and transport links.
- National and local drivers of improvement -
These include both national drivers from the Government including
initiatives and incentives to help us improve services, as well as
local drivers to address social and economic challenges.
- A clear vision for the Borough - The
vision is influenced by both the Community Strategy and the
Council’s contribution to this as set out in Aiming High – the
Corporate Plan.
- How the ambitions for the Borough will be
delivered - Making plans and defining ambitions at the highest
level and ensuring these are achieved by organising services and
ensuring ambitions influence service plans, and achievements are
monitored are all factors that ensure Aiming High’s ambitions are
achieved.
- Making best use of resources - People, property,
finances and ICT facilities are the Council’s major resources and
must be used in the best possible way to support our
ambitions.
- Overview of performance and achievements in
2006/07 - This section outlines the results of the
Comprehensive Performance Assessment and gives a summary of our
performance indicator results.
- Make people feel safer, especially by helping
to cut crime and disorder - Community Safety and Trading
Standards services contribute towards this corporate priority.
- Support the creation of more and better jobs to
reduce poverty and offer all local people a better chance in
life - The Council’s activities to support the creation of
jobs, educate adults to help them to get jobs, and ensure people
receive the benefits they require are outlined in this
section.
- Increase young people's educational and
training achievement - Services to improve the educational
achievement of children, youth services, and support for children
with special educational needs are outlined in this section.
- Look after people and improve their
surroundings - Care for children and adults, the provision
of good housing, and environmental health services help to look
after people. Other services help to minimise our effects on the
environment, and make our built and natural environment a safer and
more pleasant place for local people.
- Improve quality of life - Cultural and
sport & leisure facilities, and libraries help to improve the
quality of life of residents.
