Education - consultations
Primary Capital Programme.
The government wants parents to become more involved in shaping
the pattern of local schooling. Parents now have the right to ask
Councils to set up a new school if they think existing schools are
not performing well, or if they feel they would benefit from a
school with a different style or ethos.
The government has established the Office of the Schools
Commissioner to provide support and advice for parents on
establishing a new school, and you can find out more information
here.

to respond to parental representations (92kb pdf file);
Just because parents ask for a new school doesn’t necessarily
mean one will eventually be set up in every case. But we will help
parents to work through and understand the process. If you would
like more information on this, please email our School

We would like as many of you as possible to look at these
documents and give us your views. Do you think we are concentrating
on the right things? Have we missed anything that you think we
should include? Do you think this is the best way to prioritise
schools for investment or is there another way? You can submit
comments and these will be considered by the Council’s Cabinet
before we submit the document to the government.
We need to submit the document in the middle of June 2008 and we
need time for the Cabinet to consider your comments before
that. Please submit your comments to the School
Reorganisation Manager using the contact details on this page,
before Friday 25 April 2008.
