Consultation - Building Schools for the Future
Building Schools for the Future is a government programme that
aims to fund the remodelling, renewal or rebuild of every secondary
school in England over a 10-15 year period. The idea is that this
long term programme of investment will help to transform education
for secondary school age pupils by providing them with a 21st
century learning environment.
Here in the borough, we will get more than £150m to spend
between 2009 and 2014, with work planned bewteen 2010 and 2013.
So far it has been decided that:
- Queen Elizabeth High School will be replaced by St Anne's
Academy for 2008, with a new Academy building planned for
construction in 2009/10.
- There will be new post 16 provision at Middleton Technology
School and the Academy in Middleton in addition to that already
provided at Hopwood Hall and Cardinal Langley.
- Heywood Community High School will close from 2010 with pupils
transferring to Siddal Moor Sports College.
- A new trust school (60% new build) will replace the former
Springhill and Balderstone Schools. This will be situated on the
Springhill site from 2013.
- There will be new replacement schools at Hollingworth, Holy
Family RC/CE College and Falinge Park High.
- All other secondary schools will be remodelled or
refurbished.
Consultation
Public consultation will be held about any school
reorganisation – including any statutory proposal to close a
school, open a new one or make other significant changes.
First of all, letters of notification will be sent to
‘interested parties’ which will seek further comments in writing.
Public meetings may also be held upon request.
Consultation responses will then be fed into the
decision-making process and communicated to parents and pupils
via the schools.
