Castleton Area Forum

Castleton Area Forum meets four times a year. It is a public meeting attended by residents and local organisations. Representatives from the Police, Youth Service, Rochdale Federation of Tenants and Residents Association (RoFTRA) and the Council are in attendance to respond to concerns raised.  Your local Councillors are also present.

You don't have to be involved in a group to come along - just a resident of Castleton who wants to know what's happening in the area and is interested in how we can improve the village in which you live.

What the forum does

  • Receives reports from the Council on what is planned in the area, for example, road works, library service, swimming baths and the like
  • Receives updates from the Police and other agencies on what they are targeting in the area, for example, Police Dispersal Orders, proposed Youth Café, Canal and so on.
  • Develops projects including a community newsletter and a Christmas Tree Scheme.
  • Has presentations on topical issues, for example, Trading Standards Officer on Doorstep Crime and what measures we can take to prevent it and from the NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale on Patient Advice and Liaison Service.
  • Residents raise concerns or problems in their area, for example, road humps which are causing structural damage to their property; pot holes in the road; parking issues; litter and flytipping. (It may take time but we will make every effort to tackle your problems).
  • What’s on - we hear from local activity groups on what they have been doing, for example, the success of the Carnival and the local Pantomime.

So don’t just complain about your area to your friends. Why not come along to the meeting and share your issues with us all – you never know there may be an answer!

All minutes from the forums are reported to the Township Committee meetings. The area forums are considered to be a way of taking the process of local involvement to a very local level, and are seen as an informal extension of the Township Committee meetings. Issues raised at the forums can therefore be raised again at the Township Committee if needed.

By sending representatives to the Rochdale Area Partnership (RAP), the forum also provides an opportunity to voice opinions to the Local Strategic Partnership, which is shaping the future of the whole borough, and all of its services for the next 20 years.

The Castleton Area Forum meetings are held at Castleton Community Centre starting at 7pm.  Contact the Rochdale Township Office for dates of future meetings.
