This scheme provides 1 combined procedure in relation to
redundancy support service for staff whose employment is at risk
due to redundancy, ill health or disability administered by the HR
Service. The scheme applies to all employees of the council except
those employed to work in schools.
The overall objectives of this procedure are to provide
support to maximise the number of these employees finding
alternative employment. The procedure provides greater flexibility
for services and employees, so that search periods can be extended
or reduced subject to individual circumstances and potential
vacancies be filled by services whilst providing employees
appropriate employment protections.
The council has a statutory obligation to support and assist all
employees in these situations to find alternative employment and in
the case of disabled staff to make reasonable adjustments to the
job and/or working arrangements. In addition, it's good employment
practice for these facilities to be provided.
It is therefore in the interests of all council services to
ensure that 'at risk' employees (redeployees) are retained by the
organisation whenever possible. In addition, it is the
responsibility of the redeployees' line manager to ensure that the
appropriate officers within the HR Service are kept informed of all
proposals affecting staff.
