Youth support
Rochdale Youth Service provides a range of
informal educational opportunities across the Borough, primarily
aimed at 13 to 19 year olds. This includes a range of open
access provision for all young people such as youth clubs, detached
work, volunteering, sports sessions, accredited courses, Duke of
Edinburgh Award, Youth Council and Member of UK Youth
Parliament.
It also includes more specialised work, such as around
sexual health or substance misuse, work in schools, the Youth
Opportunity Fund and Youth Banks, 4Wheels project and a range of
arts activities including art projects, dance, drama, music
etc.
Finally the Youth Service also delivers targeted provision for
particular groups such as with excluded pupils, those at risk of
offending, young carers and disabled young people.
Targeted age groups
The target age range for the Youth Service is 13-19. It is
acknowledged, however, that a small proportion of resources will
also need to work with 11-13 year olds who are in particular need
of support as this age band are in the transitional phase from
Children’s Services, and also 17-25 year olds in some
circumstances.
