Household waste - information and advice
What should be in your wheeled bin?
Household waste including food waste, non-recyclable
plastic packaging and a small amount of light garden waste,
(provided that there is room and the bin is not overloaded or too
heavy for the mechanical lifting machinery).
What should NOT be in your bin
- Recyclable materials should not be placed in the refuse
bin.
- Hot ashes must not be placed in the bin.
- Please do not overload the bin by putting soil, stones,
rubble, engine oil or heavy objects into the bin. This may
result in damage to the bin and lifting equipment and
it will not be emptied.
- Please do not leave side waste for collection at the side
of the bin, as these will not be taken.
- Please do not fill your bin above the lid line as the system is
geared to all refuse being in the bin with the lid closed. If
the lid is properly closed the bin will be
collected, if not it will be rejected
- Make full use of the bins capacity and flatten any
non-recyclable packaging before putting it in, but do not
force items into the bin as this will make emptying
difficult.
Looking after your wheeled bin
Each household is supplied with a specially
designed plastic wheeed bin. The standard 240 litre
wheeled bin holds approximately two and a half times
as much as a normal dustbin.
The wheeled bin remains our property, please do not remove
it or deface it in any way. You can identify the bin allocated to
your property by a unique serial number on the body, or you can
mark your house number on the inside of the lid.
Cleaning your wheeled bin
- To keep your bin clean, put some newspaper in the bottom of the
bin.
- It is easier to clean your bin if you lie it on its side.
- Some private companies offer a wheeled bin cleaning service.
These companies have no connection with Rochdale
Borough Council.
