Registration - copy certificates
Replacement birth, death and marriage certificates
Rochdale Register Office holds records for births, marriages and
deaths for Rochdale, Littleborough, Milnrow and Heywood from 1837
to present day. Most records for Middleton are also held at
Rochdale. Please check with the Rochdale Register Office before
applying, using the contact details in the right hand column.
Obtaining copy certificates for births, deaths and
marriages
By calling at the Register Office, by writing, or by email.
There is currently a fee payable of £7 per certificate. If applying
for a birth certificate, you can obtain a shortened version for
£5.50. You can pay by cash, cheque, and postal order or
credit/debit card. If you require the copy certificate urgently,
you can telephone us and pay for your certificate by credit/debit
card. The certificate will be posted the same day.
Please note that an additional charge of £1 is made for any
transaction below £10.
You can order certificates online at the General Register
Office. Personal and postal applications should be made to
Superintendent Registrar at Rochdale Register Office. Cheques and
postal orders should be made payable to Rochdale MBC.
Downloading application forms
The following forms are available for you to download. You can
either print a form and return it with the appropriate fee, or you
can email us and send it as a file attachment. You will be able to
pay for the certificate by phoning us with your card details or you
can email us and send it as a file attachment and include your
credit/debit card details in the boxes at the bottom of the
form.

Applying for a copy certificate
Any person is legally entitled to apply for a copy certificate,
even if it is not their own or a member of their family. All
applicants will be asked to give their name and address and they
will be asked to state their reasons for wanting the certificate.
Records are kept for two years of all applications made for
certificates. This helps to monitor the fraudulent use of copy
certificates.
Time it takes to get a copy certificate
If you call at this office with full and accurate details, we
will issue the certificate within 20 minutes of receiving your
form. If you can not give full and accurate details, we will carry
out a five year search and give you an answer within 24 hours.
If you write, email or telephone us with full and accurate
details for the certificate require, we will post it the same day.
If you are requiring certificates for family tree purposes, it is
better to write or email us with the details giving us as much
information as possible relating to the certificate you require. We
will notify you on the results of the search within 24 hours.
