How can I renew my library loans?

You can renew your books and loans:

When should I renew my library loans?

If you are not sure that you will be able to return your books or loans before the due date it is a good idea to renew them as a precaution. If it turns out that you can return them on time after all, no harm done. If not, the loans are renewed and you won't have to worry about them becoming overdue.

If you have any overdue items, please renew them as soon as possible. This stops any fines building up and saves us sending you overdue notices and charging you for the postage. If an item is more than six months overdue and you do not contact us, we will assume that you have lost it and we will send you a bill.

Some library loans cannot be renewed
  • Items on loan from the Best Sellers Collection cannot be renewed. They will need to be brought back to the library. You may be able to borrow them again immediately, depending on demand.
  • There is a limit on the number of times you can renew a loan: five times by telephone or three times online. Once you have reached that limit you will need to bring the items back to the library for checking. You may be able to borrow them again immediately, depending on demand.
  • If somebody else has reserved an item it cannot be renewed.
  • If a reference book has been issued to you it cannot be renewed.
