Directions from M62
- Leave the motorway at Junction 20.
- Take the A627M towards Rochdale (first exit at the roundabout
if travelling from Liverpool; third exit at the roundabout if
travelling from Leeds)
- Straight on for 1 mile to another roundabout.
- Turn left towards Rochdale Town Centre.
- Change to the off–side lane and turn right onto Manchester Road
-- third exit from the next roundabout.
- Straight on through 2 pelican crossings and 1 set of traffic
lights
- Stay in the near–side lane and continue straight on at the
roundabout into St Mary's Gate (Hopwood Hall College is on
left).
- Straight on through 2 sets of traffic lights.
- Change to the off–side lane and turn right to cross the dual
carriageway at the second slip road
- Straight across the T junction into Penn Street
- Entrance to the Wheatsheaf Centre Car Park is on the right near
to the bottom of the hill.
Directions from the railway
- Walk straight ahead on leaving the station into Maclure Road
(car showroom on right) Straight on past the Fire Station. Cross at
the junction of Maclure Road and Richard Street – Halfords on right
and walk to the bottom of Maclure Road. Turn right at the T
junction into Drake Street.
- Walk down Drake Street on the right hand side past furniture
shops. Straight across at the junction with Milnrow Road past Wet
Rake Gardens and Car Park and across the junction with Oldham Road.
Be careful here! Vehicles turning left into Oldham Road from the
town centre do not always signal!
- Continue to walk down right hand side of Drake Street past
Denis Hope Fashion Shop and Rochdale Council's Treasurer's Dept
shop window at Fashion corner to the bottom of Drake Street.
- Turn right at the mini roundabout into Smith Street and cross
at the pedestrian crossing opposite the Municipal Offices (tall
black glass office block) and go into the Bus Station through
automatic doors.
- The library is signposted as you enter the concourse.
- Go up the escalator or stairs.
- The entrance to the Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre at top of
escalator.
- Take the travelator and then the escalator to the entrance to
the library; either side of TJ Hughes Department Store. Main
entrance on left up a flight of stairs.
