Heywood Library
Open for business again!
Heywood Library re-opened on Monday, 24 November 2008 at
10am.
Heywood Library had been temporarily closed since December 2007
to allow for major rebuilding and refurbishment of this listed
building.
- Major rebuilding and redecoration has been completed. We have
completely refurbished the public areas of the library and changed
the layout to provide more light and space for our customers.
- The original parquet floor has been restored and looks
splendid.
- We have created a new community room at the front of the
library, providing a meeting space for community groups and reading
groups as well as additional space for events and activities. We
are also hoping to develop informal learning events in here.
- There is an extended teenage/young adult area.
- We have redesigned the Local Studies area.
- We have refreshed the book stock, including new best sellers;
quick picks and a revamped Large Print Collection. Brand new
collections include World Music, Leisure DVDs and Children's
Stories on CD.
- There is now a CD listening post in the entrance to the
Children's Library.
- We have increased the number of public
computers.
- There is a new high spec museum exhibition case in the foyer of
the library.
- We now have disabled toilet facilities including height
adjustable computer for wheel chair users.
