Libraries - loan renewals
If you want to keep items on loan for longer than the due date
you will need to ask us to renew the loan. You can renew most
loans. Audio items that are renewed may incur an additional rental
charge.
How can I renew my loans?
Online
If you have a library PIN number you can log onto the Web
Catalogue using your library barcode and PIN and renew your loans
online.
If you do not have a PIN, please ask for one to be set up for
you next time you are in the library.
Renew your library book by logging onto the Web Catalogue
Help with online loan renewals: If you
are renewing online you may find the following points
useful when using the Web Catalogue..
- Go to "My Account & Loan Renewals" on the Web Catalogue or
"My Account & Renew My Book" in Kids' Portal.
- Enter your library barcode and PIN. (You can use the tab key to
move between these boxes).
- Click on "Items Out".
- This screen shows the items you have on loan. The due date is
in the column on the right-hand side.
- There are tick boxes on the left-hand side against each of your
loans. If you want to renew all these loans tick the box in the red
band. All the boxes will now be ticked. If you only want to renew
particular loans tick the box against those titles.
- Once you have selected the loans for renewal click on the
"Renew" button.
- If the loans have renewed successfully the due date will have
changed. If not you will get a message saying that "One or more
loans have not been renewed" and messages against the appropriate
titles letting you know what has happened.
- Once you have finished you can click on the "Log out" button in
the top right-hand corner of the screen.
By telephone
- Ring the Library Service Renewal Line on 0845 121 2976
- It helps a lot if you have your library card ready to hand so
that you can let us know the barcode, but it isn't essential.
- We will let you know the new due date and any messages on your
borrower record.
- We will let you know of any items that do not renew.
If you have borrowed items from the Mobile Library please ring
01706 924917 to renew your loans.
If you have borrowed items from the Doorstep Delivery Service
(formerly the Housebound Library Service) please ring 01706
924917.
If you have borrowed items through the Regional Loans
Service please ring 01706 924900.
In person
- When you are in the library, ask a member of staff to renew
your loans.
- You do not have to bring all the items back to the library
every time you want to renew them. We will ask to see them after a
few renewals, just to check them.
- If somebody else has reserved an item we will ask you to return
it so that they can have it.
When to renew my loans
If you are not sure that you will be able to return your loans
before the due date it is a good idea to renew the loan as a
precaution. If it turns out that you can return them on time after
all, no harm done. If not, the loans are renewed and you won't have
to worry about them becoming overdue.
If you have any overdue items, please renew them as soon as
possible. This stops any fines building up and saves us
sending you overdue notices and charging you for the postage. If an
item is more than six months overdue and you do not contact us, we
will assume that you have lost it and we will send you a bill.
Some loans will not renew
- Items on loan from the Best Sellers Collection cannot be
renewed. They will need to be brought back to the library. You may
be able to borrow them again immediately, depending on demand.
- There is a limit on the number of times you can renew a loan:
five times by telephone or three times online. Once you have
reached that limit you will need to bring the items back to the
library for checking. You may be able to borrow them again
immediately, depending on demand.
- If somebody else has reserved an item it cannot be
renewed.
