Interpreting service

If English is not your first language and you need help in talking, explaining, or understanding a letter, leaflet or bill form the Council, then we can help.

We have qualified interpreters who provide both face to face and telephone interpreting in all languages and dialects. These include:

  • Urdu
  • Punjabi
  • Portuguese
  • Pahari
  • French
  • Chinese
  • Bengali
  • Kurdish
  • Polish

Communicators for the hard of hearing and deaf

We can also help if you are hard of hearing or deaf and you need to communicate with one of our officers. This can include;

  • British Sign Language
  • Sign Supported English
  • Deaf/Blind
  • Lip speaker

The Community language Service

This service provides confidential, professional and quality communication between officers and members of the public whose first language is not English.

If you require assistance in communication with the Council then ask the officer to contact the Community language Service to arrange an interpreter, or communicator for the hard of hearing.

There will be no charge to you for this service.
