Single equality scheme 2012-2015

This Scheme has been reviewed and updated in line with new legislative requirements. This Scheme provides information on the arrangements that we have in place to meet the requirements of the Equality Act 2010, the general equality duty and the specific duties. This Scheme includes our equality and diversity priorities and objectives. It is supported by an action plan which covers the 9 protected characteristics. This action plan is currently being reviewed and updated and will be published shortly.

The new public sector equality duty protects people from discrimination on the basis of certain characteristics which are known as protected characteristics. There are 9 protected characteristics: age, disability, gender reassignment, race, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, religion or belief, sex (gender), and sexual orientation.
