Literacy Champions are non-professional learning mentors who
support others in their community who struggle with reading,
writing, speaking or listening. They are well placed to help
address the needs of these people who do not traditionally engage
with services and act as trusted advocates or brokers between them
and relevant services.
We believe people’s different backgrounds, cultures, religions
and viewpoints should be mutually respected, and we’re working hard
to make everyone across Rochdale borough feel the same. We want our
communities to feel confident in working together to create a
brighter future for Rochdale borough.

Rochdale Borough’s Community Champions are residents who have
excellent “people” skills; they care about their local area and
have a high level of expertise that is based on their life
experience. They use their skills and attributes to help others in
their community. This document provides an outline of this
initiative and the training model. Details on the outcomes achieved
by this initiative for the year 2011 are provided in the accompanying
document.
