Roads - school crossing patrols

School crossing patrolRochdale Council currently provides 69 School Crossing Patrols, ensuring that local children get to and from school as safely as possible.

Placing a school crossing

School Crossing Patrols are provided where children are in danger from road traffic when walking to and from school. This is not necessarily directly outside a school but could be anywhere on a direct route.

Requesting a school crossing patrol

Anyone can make a request, simply contact the Road Safety Unit. Following a request we will survey the area to see if it meets the national criteria which includes a vehicle and pedestrian count.

School crossing patrol vacancies

We have positions for School Crossing Patrols and Standby School Crossing Patrols. As a School Crossing Patrol you will cover a set location within the Borough usually between the hours of 8am-9.15am and 3pm-4pm during school term time.

As a Standby School Crossing Patrol you will cover for the School Crossing Patrols during periods of sickness absence. The hours of work are the same but your location will vary.

A Standby position can often lead to a permanent position.
