Cycle lanes and routes
Cycle Routes are principally indicated by signs and markings.
They may be either on the carriageway, on footways either shared
with or segregated from pedestrians, or specially designated cycle
paths.
Cycle routes
The borough has a great deal of open space and a good bridleway
network, but few urban traffic free routes. Work continues on
projects to expand the urban traffic free and quiet routes for
cyclists.
Advanced cycle stop lines
Within ordinary traffic signalled junctions, there are two sets
of stop lines on each approach. The one further from the signals is
for general traffic, and the one nearer to the signals is for
cyclists. This is to give space for cyclists wishing to turn right
to safely change from the nearside to the offside.
Reporting problems
The Traffic and Road Safety Unit deal with traffic
regulation orders, signs and lines that regulate, advise and
support cycle lanes and routes throughout the borough. Contact them
if you need advice or want to report problems with white lines such
as unclear or unnecessary junction or carriageway markings or
yellow lines and waiting restrictions.
